Praise the Lord!! Doc pretty much told me that I'm in the clear.

Since I have updated last, I have lost a coupla of my biggest musical influences, Doug Riley, and Anthony Burger. Doug was THE main reason I started playing the drums. We worked with Gold City not long after I joined the DE's, and I stood backstage while they were playing, and I was watching him the whole time. He looked like he was having the time of his life, and I wanted to do the same thing. So I got the Gold City 10th Anniversary cassette, and when I got home that week, I dragged out the old drumkit that was packed up in dads studio, and started bangin' away with that tape. Doug was my drum teacher, and didn't even know it.

Anthony always amazed me with his showmanship, and unbelievable ability to make a song FEEL good. He was the first piano player that made me say "wow" whenever he did one of those blisteringly fast instrumentals. Not to mention the fact that he was just a really nice guy. I remember at NQC one year, I was just passing by his booth, and just stopped to look at a cd, and he saw me, and he said, " Hey Scooter, which one of those do you not have?" I said, "Well, none of 'em actually." So he gave me all 4 of his cd's without even thinking about it. I'll miss Doug and Anthony greatly.

On another subject....I think McDonalds should seriously stop hiring complete idiots!! I went to one in a Walmart in FL, and ordered my usual plain burger. Lo and behold I got it out to the bus, and it had everything on it. So I take it back in there, and tell the lady at the counter that it was supposed to be PLAIN. So she turns and tells the guy puttin the burgers together that it's supposed to be PLAIN, just MEAT and BREAD. So he puts the meat on the bun...and for some unknown reason...he starts putting mayo all over it. After the woman just said "Meat and Bread ONLY" that genius starts spreadin' that junk on there. I guess it's safe to say, that guy is a coupla mcnuggets short of a happy meal. :o)

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1138096350017363192006-01-24T03:32:00.000-06:002006-01-24T03:52:31.470-06:00Super Bowl predictionsMuch to the dismay of my buddy LB, I'm pulling for the Steelers in the Super Bowl. Dont get me wrong, I like the Seahawks. I dont think they can hang with Pitt's defense though. They use a 3/4 setup like the Cowboys, and they had some major problems with them. I think Jerome Bettis is gonna get that ring, and it's well deserved. My guess...

Pittsburgh--24

Seattle-- 13

I just wish they wouldnt have this stupid bye week before the game. Gives everybody enough time to get outta sync. hehe.

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1136276326159840522006-01-03T01:51:00.000-06:002006-01-03T02:18:46.170-06:00Happy New Year!2006....Hard to believe, huh? I'm sure I'll be writing 05 on my checks for at least a month. hehe. Christmas was great. It was nice to have a little time off from the road, but I was ready to go back when we did. We're gearing up for a big year with the group. Our schedule is filling up faster than it ever has, and our TV show starts airing this Sunday.

Today is a happy day for me, and all the rest of the 12 New Orleans Saints fans across the south. Head coach, Jim Haslett, has been fired!! I was really excited.....until I started thinking about it.
Sure, it all starts with the head coach, but then you have the general manager who brings all the players in. Well, at least our GM knows SQUAT about football. I mean the dude was a number cruncher, and the semi-retarded owner promoted him to GM. Now, Im sure most of the coaching staff will be gone, and whoever they get will bring his own guys in. What if the new coach is worse than the last one? What if he brings all his rejects in? What if he looks at the QB, and says "Wow, that guy is awesome"? Just to let you know, our QB......not awesome. Im sure things will be worse before they're better, but it can't possibly get much worse. :o) If we had a new owner, GM, head coach and coaching staff, QB, receiving corps, offensive line, halfback, fullback, secondary, defensive line, linebackers, kicker, waterboy, equipment guy, and cheerleaders, then maybe next year we could win 1 or 2 games. Keep the towel guy, he shows some promise.

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1134027547161643592005-12-08T01:36:00.000-06:002005-12-08T01:40:02.766-06:00Merry Christmas!!!!Thats right, I said Merry Christmas! None of this happy holidays bidness. Ya'll be sure when you're shopping and the clerk says "happy holidays" give 'em a big ol' "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" in return. If you haven't noticed, I wont ever be caught being very politically correct.......It's been such a good week for me. On Monday, I got to spend all day with Samantha, and it was just awesome. We went to eat, and then we did the most romantic thing I could think of....we went to a giant thrift store and looked for old gospel records. haha! Tuesday, I finished all my Christmas shopping, which is strange for me. I usually wait til oh, about, Christmas eve to finish. Wednsday I went to lunch with some of the Florida Boys, and after that I went to the Sports Authority store to just look around a little. Lo and behold, my Christmas present to myself jumped out at me. An 8 foot pool table was sittin there in the doorway with my name written all over it. Now, I drive a Trans Am. Cant really haul an 8 foot pool table in that. So I had the bright idea to borrow my grandpa's truck. So I get in, put the keys in, try to crank it, and it wouldnt do squat! Well, After a minute I figured out why she wouldn't crank. It was a stickshift. I had no idea. Now, I've driven a stick before, but it weren't too purty! So I recruited my ol' buddy ol' pal T Money to drive me around. Once me, him, and dad got it all built, I really hated to take T to school in a 2 outta 3 game. Oh well, maybe next time T..............Life Is Good!

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1132736281183478602005-11-23T02:38:00.000-06:002005-11-23T02:58:01.200-06:00I like video games, but for cryin' out loud.....I am into everything electronic. Computers, video games, mp3 players, whatever. I could seriously spend hours in Best Buy just messin' around with all the stuff in there. Now, I really thought I was the biggest geek on the face of the planet. That was until I happened to be in Wal- Mart about midnight last night, and saw a huge line of people in line in the electronics department. Well, I DID know that the new Xbox 360 was coming out the next day, but I never thought it was gonna be such a big deal. I went to one Walmart, (we have 3 Supercenters) and I heard the lady say over the intercom, "We have sold out of the Xbox 360. Sorry for the inconvenience." I just happened to be standing beside a guy who I overheard tell his wife, "Dang, Ive been here since 11, and they never even brought 'em out here!" So , I got curious if it was like this at another store, so off I went. I got inside, and there was a bigger line at that one than the one before. Only this time, They actually had the systems out by the registers. One catch, you had to have a voucher slip if ya' wanted to get one. The guy who was kinda working as a security guard told me that there were some people that had been in there since 10 that morning! And I thought I was and idiot. hehe. Wouldn't it be nice if folks would line up for Gospel concerts like that?

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1132032746976260902005-11-14T23:12:00.000-06:002005-11-14T23:32:27.003-06:00Finally, an update...and I'm gonna be on TV!Well, I just thought I'd update ya'll on whats been goin' on lately.

We sang in this tiny building on saturday, I think I heard someone say it used to be a bar. Actually it was kinda fun. Since we were all so close together, the crowd really got into it a little more. Anyway, we had a pretty good weekend overall. Even got to hang with my ole buddy LB Saturday. We went to the Buffalo Wild Wings place and strapped on the feed bag. I gotta find one of those places here......It looks like The Dixie Echoes are officially gonna have a TV show on Sunday mornings from 8:30 - 9:00. We have been talking about this for a while, and the spot just opened up last week. It looks like we'll start filming next week sometime. The station we'll be on reaches about 1.2 million homes in the Pensacola, Mobile, Crestview area. I've always heard that I have a face for radio, so we'll see how the viewers handle me on their TV's. Hide the children. hehe

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1130380443625358062005-10-26T21:05:00.000-05:002005-10-27T18:09:37.573-05:00Scoot Shelnut, producer?Well, sorta. I have been working on a solo cd for a prominent bass singer in Southern Gospel. Arranging, playing and writing charts and that sorta thing. Luckily I had my buddies CP, JS, and SV there to help with the whole process. I have a new respect for the guys that do that day in and day out in Nashvile. It's really alotta work. I think this thing is gonna turn out great though. I am so lucky to be surrounded with great friends who are such spectacular musicians and singers. Its awesome to be able to play music for 12 hrs in a studio with your best friends. It doesnt seem like work then!

I am about to give up on my New Orleans Saints. I really think the refs are out to get 'em. That call in the last game against the Rams was just the worst Ive ever seen. My family says they are hexed, and I'm starting to believe 'em. Who's the genius that built the Superdome on an indian burial ground? I wanna know!

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1129707383554529362005-10-19T02:35:00.000-05:002005-10-19T03:11:40.813-05:00Went fishin' todayMy uncle, grandpa, and I went out on Escambia river this morning (at 6am) to do a liitle speckled trout fishing. Those of you who really know me know that I RARELY get up before the crack of one. So, I was suuuure hoping the fishing would be good. Well from 6:30 til about 8 am, we had only caught about six fish. Not really bad, but not exactly worth gettin' up and freezing my behind off for. So as a last resort, we decided to head into a litle cove where the boat was almost touching the bottom on the way into it. Well, we got outta the shallows and went close to the bank where there were little bait fish jumping EVERYWHERE. Oh, on the way into the cove we ran into a guy in another boat that told us, "Water's too low. Aint no fish in there." Not a good sign. well about 3 minutes after we left that guy, my uncle tossed his Electric Chicken, (a new miracle lure) into a huge pile of those little bait fish. A little trout jumped on his lure like a fat kid on a doughnut. About 30 seconds later, I got a fish on. As I was getting him off the hook, my grandpa got one. So for the next hour and a half, we reeled in fish as fast as we could throw the bait in the water! First hour and a half...6 fish. Next hour and a half...66 fish. :o) Grand total of 72. Now thats what I'm talkin about!

We head to Indiana and Missouri this weekend. Saturday we sing inside Meramec Caverns with the Lesters, Talleys, and Palmetto State. If ya'll ever get a chance to go to the cave, GO. It's Awesome!

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1127973463111817322005-09-28T23:46:00.000-05:002005-09-29T00:57:43.123-05:00Fast food for thoughtIn my travels across the country, I have eaten in virtually every fast food joint at one time or another. Some bad, some good, some I have no idea how to put into words what it was. Anyway, I thought it'd be good for my tens of readers to get a general idea of what I go through at most fast food places. Here's a typical convo between me and a food service specialist.

Food Specialist: Can I help you? Scoot Shelnut: Yeah, I'll have a hamburger plain, just meat and bread, small fries, and a sweet tea. FS: You want cheese on that? SS: Um, no...just meat and bread. I thought I said that. FS: You want to biggie size that? SS: Well, no just the small, like I ordered, will be fine. FS: Any sauce for your nuggets? SS: Uh, I didnt order any nuggets. FS: Oh, sorry. That'll be $12.57 please. SS: Whoa, for just a hamburger fries and a sweet tea?? Are you on crack?? FS: Oh sorry, my register is messed up. Let me get my manager.........Manager: Can I help you?...... I get into this pretty much every day of my life. They look at me like I'm the idiot when I don't want mayonnaise on MY hamburger. I hate mayonnaise, and Cracker Barrell seems to take it upon themselves to put in on there even when I specifically ask them not to. How considerate of them. Another small thing these places should address is the "funky sticky stuff" on 90% of ketchup packets nowadays. What in the wide world of sports is that stuff? It feels and looks like pine tar or something. I think one of the genii in management packs the ketchup with the honey, instead of packing them seperately. I swear I'm gonna open my own restaurant one day, and all you'll be able to order is plain burgers, fries, and drinks. Wont even have any condiments other than ketchup, so the food service specialists wont get too confused. :o)

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1127292305140996022005-09-21T03:08:00.000-05:002005-09-21T03:49:10.073-05:00NQC stuff.
Well, another National Quartet Convention has come and gone. It's hard to believe that it's over already. It seems to get here, and go by quicker every year. I guess thats a sign of getting older. Yuck....It was so great to be able to see all of my friends in one place at one time. It did me so much good to spend time with ya'll, cause I really needed to take my mind off certain things, and get myself back on track. I even made a few new friends that I know I will be able to count on in the future. It's cool how God will take a bad situation, and put someone in your path to get you outta that situation. All in all, what was going to be a tough week for me, turned out to be great!......So I got to play with about 435 groups on the main stage this year. Ok it was only 5, but It was awesome! I played for the Hoppers and Greater Vision one night. I played for the Perry's a coupla times, and the Toney Brothers one time. These are some of my favorite groups, and It makes me feel so good that they would even think about me when looking for someone to play with them on whats the biggest concert of the year. I even got to play on the NQC Jam session with some of the best musicians in the world. I guess I kinda played for the Whisnants, Legacy 5, Brian Free and Assurance, and the Talleys too. I had to "fake it" for TV during the Singing News Fan Awards, which is gonna be aired on INSP network. Apparently they didnt get the memo that I have a face for radio. hehe. I just hope my staring uncontrollably at Lauren Talley while standing on stage trying to "fake" play doesn't show up on TV. :o)

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1125554860720415792005-09-01T00:40:00.000-05:002005-09-01T12:14:57.286-05:00I don't get itI have been watching the news quite a bit after the storm. It's such a horrible scene in New Orleans and Mississippi. I have a lot of friends in those areas, so keep them all in your prayers.

Anyway, as I was watching the news, there have been some things that just made me downright mad. Some of these idiots are bashing president Bush saying that he's not doing enough for the hurricane victims. Saying that if we didn't have all those people in Iraq, then there would be enough people to help out with the storm relief. Well, I got news for ya'll....If they werent in Iraq, we may have gotten blown off the face of the Earth waaay before this storm did it. C'mon people, do you seriously think the President is just gonna sit back and be ho-hum about this whole thing?? I think not! I'm sure he has used every resource we have to bring relief to these folks. One of those genii news people even sounded like they were blaming the hurricane itself on Bush. Like he could tell it to go somewhere else. Its called nature...it does what it wants to!! Instead of bashing the President, try praying for him to make the best decisions he possibly can. Lets try that shall we??

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1124782055626283462005-08-23T01:59:00.000-05:002005-08-23T02:27:35.633-05:00Top 10 things overheard at Fan Fair10..... There aint but 2 of 'em!! It's soooo rigged!

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1124780161185899202005-08-23T01:35:00.000-05:002005-08-23T01:56:01.190-05:00I finally won something!Ok, I've never won anything in my life. This past week at the SG Fan Fair, we (Dixie Echoes) won the Band of the year, dad won Lead singer, and Stew won for Album of the year! Needless to say, I was in total shock. I got up there and had to give a little speech, in which I said "uh" about 734 times.

I had a great time at the Fan fair, even though there weren't a whole lotta people there. I got to hang out with some of my best friends, and made a few new ones, and thats always good. Heard alot of good singin', and then again there was some "good" singin' too, if ya know what I mean. I collect cd's of "good" singin', so I got a few to add to my collection. hehe.

I also got to do alotta people watching. I love to do that. It fascinates me to watch folks interact, and how everyone is different in their own special way. Some are shy and reserved like me. Some are just flat out obnoxious or crazy, yet they dont realize it. Some change the way they act around certain people when certain other people are around. Well.....it's interesting to me anyway. :o)

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1122353152017586852005-07-25T23:29:00.000-05:002005-07-25T23:45:52.023-05:00Oh yeah, I wonNot really surprising news, but I won the putt putt game this weekend. I Had a little competition with TC, but LB never was even in the game. Thats funny 'cause she's the one who talks the most smack!.......The whole weekend was pretty good, other than the air going out in the bus. No big deal though, it should be fixed tomorrow.....Oh well, gotta go. I have a hard day of sitting around and watching tv all day tomorrow.

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1121818415052900602005-07-19T19:03:00.000-05:002005-07-19T19:13:35.060-05:00The great putt-offWell, it looks like I am gonna have to School my buddy from La. in putt putt yet again this weekend. Ya know, it's strange how we as human beings can keep doing the same stupid things over, and over again. After time, you'd think we would learn when not to try certain things. I mean, chimpanzees even know that when they are hooked up to the machine that shocks them every time they hit the wrong button, they dont hit that button anymore. I hate that TC has to be in the middle of it too, but I'm gonna have to whip his rear too.

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1120711732104839342005-07-06T23:38:00.000-05:002005-07-06T23:48:52.106-05:00Gary Allen, Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, and Kenny Chesney can go fall off a cliffIs it just me, or can any bum on the street sing better that any of these idiots? I really think that's the case. How in the sam hill did any of these people become popular? It amazes me. As much as I love American Idol, I dont see how people can pick some of the ones they do as their favorite. I sang with a former AI contestant the past 2 weeks, and he can outsing most every one that was in the top 12. Where's the line drawn between talent, and personality? I mean, if I buy a cd, I wanna hear good singing and music. I don't buy a cd just because someone is popular, or jumps around like an idiot on stage. Gimme some quality music!

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14251007.post-1120676031367667472005-07-06T13:53:00.000-05:002005-07-06T13:53:51.370-05:00My goal with this blog is to share my knowledge of southern gospel music, sports, technology, and pretty much everything else. I mean, Ken Jennings (the Jeopardy guy) calls me for advice all the time. Ok not really. I just thought I'd start one since everybody else on Gods green earth had one.

RDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12580592282744808430noreply@blogger.com0
